AI For the People by the People.
Some very smart and awesome people realized very quickly that in order to have a fair and balanced ecosystem of AI products and services, we can't allow huge corporations to be the only ones that have access.
Enter Stability AI and CEO, Emad Mostaque.
I recently watched this interview and was blown away at both how exciting and potentially terrifying the future of AI is becoming. I'm not talking about 10-20-30 years down the road either. In the interview, Emad breaks down how their goal is to create open-source platforms and models that can run without connection to an internet source, and reduce terabytes of data into 2 GB. The interview is nearly 2 hours long but I highly recommend you watch it if you want to gain valuable insights into what's to come. Here are a few quotes and highlights from that interview.
Things are moving faster than most expected. For instance, Stable Diffusion, an image-generating platform similar to Dall-E, Midjourney, and others, has improved its rendering speeds 30x in the last few months. The goal? instant, and real-time rendering. BTW, they are now under 1 second of rendering time.
Why is this important? There are many reasons but here is just one cool example. You can render entire virtualized worlds in real time. Emad thinks we will experiencing real life Ready Player One and Jarvis in 5 years.
Emad made the joke about ridding the world of PowerPoint. All in favor?? Essentially, in the very near future and even today, any visual can be created instantly through just describing what you want. I've already seen evidence of video editing tools that can not only change the language, tone, and facial expressions of a pre-recorded movie clip, but it does so in near real-time. Imagine you don't like the ending of a movie, with how fast things are progressing, you will soon be able to create your own ending. Insane to even think about honestly.
This will open up an opportunity for groups of people working together, loosely bound for a bigger story. We can achieve this as a civilization but it gets blocked because we arenāt communicating properly.
AI will be at the core of everything we do and interact with within 10-20 years.
Photoshop is millions of lines of code whereas Stable Diffusion is binary.
Mind to materialization is the future, allowing anyone who can describe what they want, the ability to create anything they want.
Information is infrastructure and infrastructure is the most efficient means by which society stores and distributes value.
When anyone can create anything they want easily, what becomes valuable?
Emad goes into great detail about data, privacy, the need for this tech to stay open source, and the necessity and ways AI will shape our education and healthcare systems.
These are just 10 quick points from an entire list of notes from this one interview. If you're learning or consider yourself an enthusiast, check it out.
Nerd Out & Build
ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, Jasper, and many many other AI products, tools, and services are changing the way we create, learn, and evolve. There are hundreds of products being created with more and more popping up every single day.
So where do you go if you want to really nerd out, test future products, contribute feedback, join communities, learn, and even build your own? Hugging Face is that place if you fancy yourself an open-source champion that is open to building in public.
