Tennessee Strikes a Chord: The ELVIS Act Shields Musicians from AI Overreach

Quick Bytes: Tennessee's rocking the boat with the ELVIS Act, making it a trailblazer in the AI regulation gig. But can you really stop AI from mimicking melodies? Seems like a tough chord to strike.

Key Takeaways:

  • ELVIS Act: Tennessee’s new law strums a protective tune, aiming to shield artists from AI mimicking their style. But here’s the rub: can you truly prevent a voice clone?

  • AI in the studio: AI's cranking out tunes and blurring lines between the original and the copycat. It’s a new era in music, but not without its dissonances.

  • Economic riffs: In Tennessee, music’s more than a vibe—it’s big bucks and jobs, making the stakes high for protecting the industry’s authenticity.

  • Protection or overreach? The law expands rights, but is it stepping into uncharted territory, trying to control the uncontrollable?

  • Global symphony in discord: Tennessee's solo act in AI law may need a backup band as the world grapples with how to harmonize tech and creativity.

The Big Picture: With the ELVIS Act, Tennessee is tuning into the AI debate, trying to safeguard music’s soul. But here’s my take: stopping AI from sounding like someone else is like trying to stop guitars from playing the blues. Technology like AI voice changers, much like autotune, can’t be silenced easily. They’re just the latest instruments in the evolving music scene.

Runway and Musixmatch Unite: Orchestrating the Future of AI-Driven Music Videos

Quick Bytes: Runway's hitting a high note with its new partnership with Musixmatch, letting musicians sync AI-generated video to lyrics. Get ready for a music video revolution where AI brings the beat to life!

Key Takeaways:

  • AI’s music video debut: Runway’s teaming up with Musixmatch to give musicians a cool tool for creating AI-powered lyrics videos.

  • Tech harmony: Musixmatch's users can now use Runway’s Gen-2 model for crafting dynamic videos synced with their tunes.

  • Creative crescendo: This collaboration aims to transform music video production, making it faster and more in tune with artists' visions.

  • Subscription symphony: Access to this new feature is exclusive to Musixmatch’s Pro tier, but it promises a seamless integration for artist creativity.

  • Industry impact: Big names are already playing with AI in music visuals, and Runway's move could set the stage for more to join the bandwagon.

The Big Picture: As AI continues to rock the entertainment world, Runway’s partnership with Musixmatch marks a significant step in blending technology with traditional music artistry. This could democratize music video production, allowing artists from all walks of life to create visually stunning accompaniments to their songs. In the symphony of the entertainment industry, AI may just be the next leading instrument, conducting a new era of creative expression.

Constructing the Future: AI Transforms Homebuilding from Blueprint to Reality

Quick Bytes: AI is stepping onto the construction site, ready to revolutionize homebuilding from blueprint to the final brick. With big players like Compass and Higharc leading the charge, the future of building homes is looking more like a streamlined, data-driven operation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Tech infusion in real estate: Compass is utilizing AI to enhance the home selling and buying process, proving that technology’s grip on real estate is tightening.

  • AI on the construction front: Higharc's automation platform is changing the game, making home construction quicker and less costly.

  • Data's big role: In the construction chaos, AI sifts through the mess, pinpointing what's needed, where, and when, aiming to patch up the industry's efficiency leaks.

  • Investment boom: With hefty investments flowing in, startups like Higharc are bringing innovative solutions to longstanding industry challenges.

  • Skill upshift needed: The leap into AI-driven construction demands a workforce skilled in navigating these new tech tools, signaling a shift towards more tech-savvy industry practices.

The Big Picture: AI's march into homebuilding is more than just hype; it’s a promising overhaul of traditional methods. With the power to predict, plan, and execute with precision, AI could soon be the cornerstone of construction, making the dream of affordable and efficient homebuilding a tangible reality.

Title: Cobra: Extending Mamba to Multi-Modal Large Language Model for Efficient Inference

Authors: Han Zhao, Min Zhang, Wei Zhao, Pengxiang Ding, Siteng Huang, Donglin Wang

Summary:

In recent years, the application of multimodal large language models (MLLM) in various fields has achieved remarkable success. However, as the foundation model for many downstream tasks, current MLLMs are composed of the well-known Transformer network, which has a less efficient quadratic computation complexity. To improve the efficiency of such basic models, we propose Cobra, a linear computational complexity MLLM. Specifically, Cobra integrates the efficient Mamba language model into the visual modality. Moreover, we explore and study various modal fusion schemes to create an effective multi-modal Mamba. Extensive experiments demonstrate that (1) Cobra achieves extremely competitive performance with current computationally efficient state-of-the-art methods, e.g., LLaVA-Phi, TinyLLaVA, and MobileVLM v2, and has faster speed due to Cobra's linear sequential modeling. (2) Interestingly, the results of closed-set challenging prediction benchmarks show that Cobra performs well in overcoming visual illusions and spatial relationship judgments. (3) Notably, Cobra even achieves comparable performance to LLaVA with about 43% of the number of parameters. We will make all codes of Cobra open-source and hope that the proposed method can facilitate future research on complexity problems in MLLM.
