ChatGPT Launches New API Call with Powerful GPT-3.5-Turbo Model

ChatGPT has just released its newest offering to developers - the ChatGPT API. This new API call uses the gpt-3.5-turbo model, the same powerful model used in the ChatGPT product. In addition to being ideal for chat use cases, early testers have found that the gpt-3.5-turbo model is also excellent for many non-chat applications.

But what sets the ChatGPT API apart from other models is its competitive pricing. At just $0.002 per 1K tokens, it is ten times cheaper than existing GPT-3.5 models.

Model Updates: Always Get the Best Possible Performance

The ChatGPT team is always working to improve their models, and these updates are now available to developers using the gpt-3.5-turbo model. Developers who use this model will receive the recommended stable model at all times. They can also choose to opt for a specific version if needed.

For instance, the team recently released a new model version called "gpt-3.5-turbo-0301" that will be supported until at least June 1st. In April, they will update gpt-3.5-turbo to a new stable release, and developers will receive switchover updates via the models page.

Whisper API: Speech-to-Text Models Now Available

In addition to the ChatGPT API, developers can also use the Whisper API to convert speech to text. This model was open-sourced in September 2022, and the large-v2 model is now available via the API as "whisper-1". This API is the fastest, cheapest, and most convenient way to use the Whisper model.

The Whisper API is also affordable, priced at just $0.006/minute, rounded up to the nearest second.

Changes in ChatGPT's Data Policies: How We Protect Your Data

ChatGPT values the feedback of its API customers, and over the past six months, the team has made several changes to improve their data policies. For instance, data submitted through the API will no longer be used for model training or other service improvements, unless the user explicitly opts-in.

They have removed their pre-launch review process by improving their automated monitoring systems. Additionally, they have simplified their terms of service and usage policies, including terms around data ownership.
