No Copyright for AI: US Judge Rules in Favor of Human Authors

A US judge recently ruled that AI-created images cannot be considered authors under US copyright law. This means that works created by AI, no matter how original and unique, won't be protected by copyright laws.

The case involves a physicist and AI researcher, Stephen Thaler, who designed an AI system called DABUS. The system generates unique designs, and Thaler had attempted to register copyrights for works created by DABUS. However, the US Copyright Office rejected the attempts, arguing that copyright law requires an author to be a human being.

The ruling sets a precedent for businesses and organizations using AI to create works such as music, art, or literature, as they may not be able to claim copyright protection for those works. It will also have significant implications for the development of AI systems, clarifying that AI is not a legal person and cannot own intellectual property rights. So, it seems like we still need human creativity after all!

Move Over Hollywood: Robots are Taking Over the Film Industry!

According to the New York Times, Microsoft's search engine Bing is testing out creating AI-powered movies. They've created an AI model called Bing Robot which generates storyboards, picks music, and even suggests camera angles. But don't get too excited, these short films are only meant for testing purposes and not for public release.

While AI-powered movies have the potential to save time and money in the filmmaking process, the use of AI raises ethical questions about the role of technology in art and the potential for job loss in the industry. Plus, there's always the risk of losing that human touch and creativity that makes movies so special.

Bing isn't the only one jumping on the AI-powered movie bandwagon, other companies such as ScriptBook and Largo Films are also in the industry. Who knows, we might be seeing a lot more AI-powered movies in the future. But for now, let's sit back and watch the Bing Robots do their thing.

Apparently, we've already passed the point of no return with AI and its impact on society. But it's not all doom and gloom! The article highlights some of the potential benefits, such as improved medical diagnosis and personalized education. Of course, there are also concerns about job displacement and the possibility of bias and discrimination, but who needs job security when you have personalized medical attention, right?

The author suggests that we should embrace AI's potential and work towards creating a positive impact. So, let's all just sit back and enjoy the ride as AI takes over the world. Who knows? Maybe we'll even reach singularity and experience the bliss of being surpassed by AI intelligence! All joking aside, it's up to us to shape AI's future, so let's do our best to make it a good one.
