🤌 Prompt Of The Day

Fast Food Future: AI Taking Your Order with a Side of Disruption

Midjourney Prompt: Inside a futuristic fast food joint, humanoid robots clad in aprons and hats swiftly move about, attending to customers with robotic efficiency. They skillfully handle the grill, fryer, and drink dispenser, their movements synchronized and precise. The restaurant's interior is a blend of futuristic and retro aesthetics, with neon lights and chrome accents. The atmosphere is vibrant and energetic, with a touch of nostalgia. Picture this: you pull up at your favorite drive-thru joint and, instead of some overworked, underpaid employee, you're greeted by the cheerfully infallible voice of AI, ready to take your order. This is not some wild sci-fi dream, my friends, but a very real near-future scenario, as per Rob Carpenter, AI mogul and founder of Valyant AI.

According to Carpenter, within the next five to ten years, I think much sooner, ie < 2 years, AI could shoulder most if not all jobs at your favorite fast-food joints, like McDonald's, Taco Bell, or my personal guilty pleasure, Popeye's. He even mentioned that Wendy's is already getting chummy with Google to create an AI-enhanced drive-thru experience. Sounds like the Jetsons, right?

Now, let me throw some numbers at you - 150,000. That's how many people McDonald's employed before the recent layoffs. And guess what's filling the gap? AI! Take Valyant AI's Holly, for example. She's already outdoing human employees, having processed over a million drive-thru orders at places like Hardee's and Carl's Jr.

According to Carpenter, the AI charm doesn't stop at order taking. It extends to food prep, payment processing, and even the hard sell. Apparently, AI can upsell about 200% of the time, which makes your typical human upseller look like a rookie! The kind of adaptability we're talking about here is bonkers – adding, modifying, and removing items from orders without batting an LED.

And now for the punchline – here's where the laugh might get stuck in your throat. A recent report by Goldman Sachs suggests that the rise of AI could potentially wipe out around 300 million jobs. So, while Holly and her AI pals are filling up positions that fast-food franchises can't, it's creating a "significant disruption" in labor markets worldwide.

Carpenter says that the order-taking gig is one of the least sought-after in the fast-food industry. "Why not let a robot handle that?" he suggests, and as much as I'm an advocate for human interaction, he does have a point. An AI doesn't care if it's 8 a.m. or 2 a.m., it's always ready to take your order, without ever forgetting to ask, "Do you want fries with that?"

So, as you're chomping down your next AI-ordered burger, just remember – you might be getting a glimpse of the future. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I'll let you decide over your next side of fries.

Could AI Be Our Own Worst Enemy? Tech Visionaries Think So

Midjourney Prompt: A haunting AI apocalypse dystopian future where a lone figure stands on a dilapidated bridge, surrounded by the remnants of civilization submerged in murky water, debris floating around. The scene is illuminated by a pale, sickly green light, creating an unsettling and desolate atmosphere. Painting, watercolor on textured paper, emphasizing the washed-out colors and the blending of the figure with the environment, --ar 9:16 --v 5

This morning I stumbled upon some chilling news. Apparently, some of the biggest names in tech are telling us the artificial intelligence (AI) they're building might just be the end of us all. The warning, as serious as those concerning pandemics and nuclear war, came from a nonprofit group called the Center for AI Safety, backed by over 350 AI honchos. Talk about a wakeup call!

Among these cautionary voices were industry titans like Sam Altman of OpenAI, Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind, and Dario Amodei from Anthropic. These folks are not just warning about AI spreading misinformation or stealing jobs, but potentially causing societal-scale chaos. Bit of a pickle, considering they're the ones racing to build this tech, and now they're saying it might need stricter controls.

Interestingly, these warnings aren't just whispers in the wind. They've even been taken to the likes of President Biden and VP Harris. Afterwards, Sam Altman called out in a Senate testimony, expressing the need for government intervention to handle these future AI risks. As Dan Hendrycks from the Center for AI Safety said, a lot of industry insiders have been privately nervous about the tech they're developing.

Sure, there are skeptics saying AI is still too immature to pose a real threat. However, others believe AI's rapid progress is leading us closer to artificial general intelligence (AGI) - AI that can match or even outperforms humans in many tasks. It’s like we’re on the verge of creating our own sci-fi movie reality!

What’s the proposed game plan? According to Altman and his OpenAI crew, we need cooperation among leading AI makers, more research into AI models, and an international AI safety organization. A government license for AI creators is also on the cards. So, here we are, folks. The people shaping the future of AI are urging us to tap the brakes, assess the situation, and proceed with caution. Quite the plot twist in our tech story, isn't it?

AI vs Superbugs: Machine Learning Paves the Way for a New Antibiotic

Midjourney Prompt: In a cutting-edge laboratory, scientists and AI researchers collaborate to combat the threat of superbugs. A state-of-the-art AI system analyzes vast amounts of data, searching for patterns and potential antibiotic candidates. The scene is filled with computer screens displaying complex algorithms and molecular structures, while scientists in lab coats work alongside the AI, discussing the findings. The atmosphere is intense and hopeful, as the team pioneers a new era in antibiotic development. Photography, using a macro lens to capture the intricate details of the laboratory equipment and the scientists' focused expressions, --ar 16:9 --v 5.1

Imagine a world where even the most potent antibiotics are shrugged off by tiny microbial enemies. This isn't the plot of a science fiction movie; it's a global health crisis in progress. But scientists are now flipping the script, using machine learning—an AI application that learns from past data—to search for new weapons.

Researchers from McMaster University and MIT have successfully employed machine learning to screen thousands of molecules, a process akin to finding a needle in a gargantuan haystack. Their efforts yielded an impressive new contender in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria: an antibacterial compound named abaucin.

Now, let's pause for a moment to consider the implications. Acinetobacter baumannii, the superbug in question, is a notorious character. It thrives in hospitals, inflicts serious infections, and has developed resistance to most antibiotics. In short, it's a formidable foe. The discovery of abaucin, although still in early stages and successful in treating infected wounds in mice, marks a significant breakthrough.

This achievement underscores AI's transformative potential in the healthcare landscape. We're not merely talking about streamlining processes or enhancing diagnostic accuracy. This is about a paradigm shift in drug discovery and disease management, potentially turning the tide in our ongoing struggle against superbugs. AI, with its unparalleled speed and processing power, could become our most powerful ally in the quest to safeguard human health.
